Dr. Vinod Arya Assistant Professor of Sociology Central University of Punjab, Bathinda
Dr. Vinod Arya serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the Central University of Punjab, Ghudda, Bathinda, a position he has held since July 29, 2015. He earned his Master of Philosophy in 2009 and his Doctor of Philosophy in 2014, both from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Arya was an Assistant Professor (on contract) at the Central University of Bihar, contributing to both the Centre for Development Studies and the Centre for Sociological Studies between 2011 and 2013. He also served as a Guest Lecturer at Ambedkar University, New Delhi, where he taught a course titled 'Contemporary Economic Policy'.
Dr. Arya's research interests encompass Human Rights, Social Change, and Dalit Studies. He has been involved in several significant research projects, including:
Serving as a Research Associate for the collaborative project 'Social Status and Social Attitudes in India: A Study of Indian College Students', a joint initiative between Harvard University, The University of British Columbia, and JNU.
Acting as a Research Assistant for the ICSSR-sponsored project 'Explorations in Decadal Development of Sociology and Social Anthropology'.
Contributing as a Research Associate to the ICSSR-funded project 'Changing Nature of Caste: Articulations, Institutions, and Settlements'.
In addition to his teaching and research responsibilities, Dr. Arya has undertaken various administrative roles within the Central University of Punjab. Notably, he serves as the Nodal Officer for the Dr. Ambedkar Centre of Excellence, established to coach candidates for Civil Services Examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission.
Dr. Arya has also been an active member of several committees, including the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, the Proposed Women's Study Centre, and the Anti-Discrimination Cell. His commitment to academic excellence is further demonstrated through his involvement in curriculum development and his mentorship of students.
His scholarly contributions include publications in esteemed journals such as the Bhartiya Samajshashtra Sameeksha and The Voice. He has also authored book chapters, including 'Vividh Visheshagya: Professor Vivek Kumar' in 'Swatantrata ke Baad Lucknow ki Dalit aur Shoshit Vibhutiyan' and 'Village' in 'B.R. Ambedkar: Society & Culture'.
